A proclamation in Morro Jable honoring the carnival queens
Morro Jable kicks off the carnival with the most well‑attended proclamation in recent years. The Ayuntamiento of Pájara paid tribute to all the child, adult and “Gran Dama” queens that have marked the municipality’s history.
The celebration took place on Thursday, 12 March, with an original proclamation that highlighted the role of the carnival’s queens. Organized through the Women’s Programme under the slogan “They are the heart of the carnival”, the event began amid a large, enthusiastic crowd.
The Queens Who Read the Proclamation
- Sheila Exojo Rodríguez, the adult queen,
- Catalina Pérez, the Gran Dama, and
- Arianna Isabel Fernández Díaz, the child queen,
took turns reading the proclamation that signaled the start of the festivities. Their words were accompanied by a video showcasing each woman’s contribution and trajectory within the carnival.
Officials’ Reactions
“This has been one of the most beautiful days since I assumed responsibility for this area,” said Kathaisa Rodríguez, councilor for Social Services and organizer of the event. “I must thank all the women who helped and collaborated to produce these wonderful videos, and everyone who, year after year, has enriched our carnivals.”
She also highlighted the crucial work of the costume makers and all volunteers who make the carnival a space for community, fun and municipal pride.
Juan José Viera, councilor for Festivities, praised the tribute as a successful homage to the history and evolution of Morro Jable’s carnival queens, emphasizing the essential role of women in every municipal activity.
Mayor Alejandro Jorge expressed satisfaction with the strong public turnout, stating:
“The attendance at today’s proclamation shows that this carnival promises a lot.”
He invited residents and visitors to enjoy the full programme of events scheduled throughout the carnival season.
The carnival of the municipality of Pájara continues across its various towns, with all activities outlined in the official programme.
