AMF hires Jero Lozano's services for La Oliva elections

Jero Lozano returns to active politics in La Oliva. Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura (AMF) convened a ceremony on Friday at the Hotel Mirador to “announce the registration of Jero Lozano Santana as a member of AMF,” the party said, framing the move as part of its strategy for the 2027 local and regional elections.

With Lozano’s recruitment, AMF gains an electoral asset that fills the party’s void in northern Fuerteventura. He is known for his stint as a councilor and his ties to football and sport, but also for a turbulent and erratic political trajectory.

Lozano’s first political experience came with En Marcha, the party founded by Pedro Amador for the 2019 municipal elections, which surprised many by winning four council seats. He entered government by supporting the 2020 motion of no‑confidence against Isaí Blanco (CC). The following year he sparked his first controversy by breaking party discipline, choosing to remain in office after mayor Pilar González (Gana‑PP) dismissed the councilor for Economy and Finance.

He never finalized his integration into Nueva Canarias for the 2023 elections.

En Marcha left the governing coalition in solidarity with a colleague, but Lozano stayed on as councilor until he himself was dismissed in 2022.

Mayor Pilar González cited a loss of confidence after public statements in which Lozano expressed dissatisfaction with the governing group and “indicated his intention to join another candidacy for the upcoming elections,” according to the municipal communiqué.

Lozano had announced his adhesion to Nueva Canarias and even circulated photos with the party’s logo, but his integration and candidacy for the 2023 elections never materialized.

Moreover, the mayor shifted from praising his performance to tarnishing his public image. After his dismissal, González alleged “very serious” misconduct, accusing the former councilor of committing expenses exceeding €150,000 on works without a budget.

Following a period of inactivity, Jero Lozano returns to the front line of local politics with his registration as a member of AMF. At the presentation he was supported by the president of Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura, Juan Nicolás Cabrera Saavedra, and other party members, although former island council president Sergio Lloret did not attend.

In statements to the media present, Lozano thanked the support he received on social networks and highlighted those “likes” from people who, he said, “are not afraid,” because “it is not easy to trust someone in politics.”

The four councilors elected by En Marcha in La Oliva in 2019 are also mentioned.
