Ananda Yoga launches Health and Wellness project in Fuerteventura to support informal caregivers
The Ananda Yoga for Health and Well‑Being association has launched the “Health and Well‑Being” project, an initiative aimed at non‑professional caregivers in Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria with the goal of helping them manage the physical, mental and emotional overload that comes with caring for dependent family members.
Program overview
The programme offers free group sessions from March to June, featuring therapeutic workshops and accompaniment activities designed to improve mental health, emotional balance and overall wellbeing for those who play this crucial role in the family sphere.
It includes therapeutic yoga, conscious breathing and relaxation, as well as participatory workshops covering topics such as stress management, self‑esteem, resilience, self‑care, setting personal boundaries and assertive communication.
Active‑listening spaces, individualized support for overload situations, and conscious leisure and personal‑growth activities are also provided, creating a network of support for caregivers.
Quotes from the project coordinator
“Many caregivers assume this responsibility for years, sometimes without family or institutional support, which can lead to high levels of stress, fatigue, anxiety or sleep problems,” explains Beby Martínez García, project coordinator.
“In 2015, during a particularly difficult time in my life, yoga and meditation became essential tools to regain calm and health. That experience is now one of the reasons that drive me to accompany other caregivers in their own self‑care process,” Martínez adds.
Schedule and locations
Sessions have already begun. The next meeting in Fuerteventura will take place on 21 March, and the calendar extends to July 2026, including convivencia days.
All sessions are held at the Ananda Yoga centre, Calle Maestro Falla 22, local 2, from 10:00 to 13:00. Planned dates are:
- 21 March

- 25 April
- 16 May
- 6 June
- 20 June
Interested participants can obtain information or register via WhatsApp 629 474 433 or by emailing anandayogafuerteventura@gmail.com.
Funding and target group
The project receives financial support from the Government of the Canary Islands and is primarily directed at people who care for dependent relatives without a paid job or remuneration, performing tasks such as personal care, emotional support, medication supervision and appointment management.
The association notes that most non‑professional caregivers are women, so the project incorporates a gender perspective, though it remains open to men in the same role.
Additional community initiatives
Beyond this programme, the association has experience with other community‑focused projects, including:
- “Health and Well‑Being: Learning to Manage Thoughts and Emotions”
- “CuidadosaMente” – aimed at young people
- “Vivir en Plenitud” – targeted at seniors
- “SaludableMente” – focusing on breathing and mindfulness for primary‑school students in Fuerteventura.
