Antigua Kicks Off Carnival Season in Fuerteventura
in Fuerteventura, starting Wednesday, February 4
The 2026 Carnival of the municipality of Antigua, “Cultures and Places of the World,” runs from February 4 to 14. The programme is split into two blocks: in Antigua, February 4‑8, and in Caleta de Fuste on February 13‑14, with events for all ages.
The 2026 Carnival in Antigua will be held from February 4 to 14 under the theme “Cultures and Places of the World.” The schedule is divided into two main blocks: Antigua (February 4‑8) and Caleta de Fuste (February 13‑14), offering activities for every audience. The programme includes street parades, a Murgas Encounter, galas such as the Grand Drag Gala, the election of the children’s queen, carnival “cosos,” children’s parties, evening dances, and the Burial of the Sardine to close the festivities.
The celebrations begin this Wednesday, February 4, first with a morning street parade in the schools, followed in the afternoon by the Murgas Encounter—the first time Fuerteventura’s carnival groups will showcase months of rehearsal. The Antigua City Council, through its Festivities Department, has prepared and publicised the schedule and invites the public to take part in one of the island’s biggest social and cultural events of the year.
