Maritime line to Cádiz sparks political debate
Cabildo Urges the State to Accelerate the Tender for the Public Service Obligation of the Cádiz‑Puerto del Rosario Ferry Line
The plenary session of the Fuerteventura Cabildo has approved an institutional declaration urging the central government to fast‑track the tendering process for the public service obligation (PSO) covering the Cádiz‑Puerto del Rosario maritime route.
In doing so, the Cabildo highlights the special importance of this line for Fuerteventura, as it constitutes an essential link for the transport of passengers, vehicles, goods and rolling cargo between the island and the mainland.
The maritime connection is currently covered by a PSO that expires on 30 June, after being extended by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for an extraordinary one‑year period. For this reason, the Cabildo is calling on the Ministry to expedite the tender for a new PSO, ensuring the continuity of a vital service for an outermost island whose economy heavily depends on maritime connectivity.
