Cabildo Urges Aena to Offer Residents Discounted Airport Parking

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has approved an institutional declaration urging Aena and the Spanish Government to grant a 75 % discount on parking at Fuerteventura Airport for Canary Island residents and to ensure fair rates for airport workers.

The archipelago’s ultra‑peripheral and insular nature makes mobility a daily necessity for Fuerteventurans—whether for health, work, education, administrative matters or family reasons.

At Fuerteventura Airport, the high parking fees impact not only users and residents, as the Cabildo noted in its statement, but also airport staff and employees of auxiliary companies that operate on a daily basis.

“We ask the Spanish Government and Aena to implement a 75 % discount on parking tariffs and to revise the airport‑parking pricing policy so it reflects the social and economic reality of the Canary Islands, preventing the island’s isolation from generating unjustified extra costs for citizens.”

The Cabildo also calls on the Government of the Canary Islands to back this demand institutionally and defend it before the State.

Public Maritime Line Cádiz–Puerto del Rosario

In the same session, the Cabildo approved another institutional declaration urging the State to accelerate the tendering process for the public service obligation (OSP) of the Cádiz‑Puerto del Rosario maritime route.

The Cabildo emphasizes the line’s critical role for Fuerteventura, serving as an essential link for passengers, vehicles, goods and rolling cargo between the island and the mainland.

The maritime connection is currently covered by an OSP that expires on 30 June, after having been extended by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for an extraordinary one‑year period.

“We request the Ministry to fast‑track the new OSP tender to guarantee this vital service for an ultra‑peripheral island whose economy heavily depends on maritime connectivity,” the Cabildo’s note concluded.
