Caaf warns against fraudulent connections to the grid
10 complaints related to “water theft” filed against the consortium in recent months
The Fuerteventura Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) has lodged 10 complaints concerning fraud in connections to the water distribution network—commonly referred to as “water theft.” These illegal hookups not only constitute fraud against public accounting but also cause recurring problems with the infrastructure, jeopardising the proper supply to subscribers.
“We will not cease to implement measures to control this type of fraudulent behaviour, and we warn that sanctions will be imposed on anyone who engages in these criminal acts,” the CAAF explained.
The consortium will continue inspecting the island to locate all illegal connections, demanding the economic damages associated with the fraud and filing the corresponding legal complaints. It reminds the public that such conduct is classified under Article 255 of the Penal Code as the defrauding of fluids.
Call to Action
- Residents who are aware of any fraudulent water usage are urged to report it to the consortium.
- Prompt reporting will help the CAAF provide a better service and protect the integrity of the water supply system.
