Cabildo to upgrade Puerto del Rosario waterfront lighting with solar power

The initiative is driven by the Tourism Department, under the Destination Tourist Sustainability Plan (PSTD).

The Island Council of Fuerteventura will upgrade the illumination of the Puerto del Rosario seafront promenade by installing photovoltaic lighting, a project promoted by the “Fuerte by Nature” Destination Tourist Sustainability Plan (PSTD) of the Tourism Department.

The new intervention aims to enhance the quality of the promenade, improving its functionality and sustainability through an efficient, environmentally‑friendly lighting system.

The council has already signed an agreement with the Port Authority of Las Palmas to carry out the work. The project has a budget of €158,170, financed with European Next Generation EU funds, and will soon be put out to tender.

“This investment will improve several areas of Fuerteventura within the framework of the plan, in coordination with the municipalities,” said Lola García, President of the Island Council of Fuerteventura. “In this case, together with the Puerto del Rosario City Council, we are undertaking a significant intervention to revitalize the promenade’s image and comfort.”

Marlene Figueroa, Tourism Minister, explained that after the comprehensive renovation works carried out in 2025, the new project now aims to provide more sustainable lighting, consolidating the promenade as one of the main transit and leisure points in Puerto del Rosario.

The “Fuerte by Nature” Destination Tourist Sustainability Plan is funded by European resources within Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
