Cabildo Transfers El Cotillo Bus Stop to Local Police

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Department of Transport, is ceding a space to open the first Local Police office in El Cotillo. The move is possible thanks to coordinated work between the La Oliva City Council and the island’s governing corporation.

The plenary session of the Cabildo approved the transfer on Friday, unanimously, granting the space located at the preferred bus stop in El Cotillo.

According to a statement released after the session, the decision responds to a request from the La Oliva City Council, driven by the need to reinforce police presence in the area. Population growth in recent years has generated a strong local demand for higher levels of security and surveillance.

“This action is part of the work the Cabildo of Fuerteventura carries out with various administrations to strengthen cooperation on security matters, meeting a demand that the municipal corporation brought to us and that will allow the City Council to reinforce safety in the zone,” said the President of the Cabildo during the plenary session.

Isaí Blanco, mayor and head of the Security Department of La Oliva, highlighted the increase in the local police force provided by the City Council, which enables the decentralisation of security across the municipality.

Luis González, the Cabildo’s Transport Minister, explained that the initiative pursues two objectives:

“On the one hand, to improve municipal security, and on the other, to enhance the surveillance and safety of the space itself.”

The Cabildo’s communiqué concluded with this statement.
