Career Paths Sustaining the Medical Profession in Fuerteventura
This event is the annual collegial gathering that brings together most of the island’s doctors to promote camaraderie.
The Las Palmas Medical Association held its Homenajes Fuerteventura ceremony on the evening of Friday, 8 May, at the Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort. The occasion honored three milestones in medical careers: physicians marking 50 years since graduation, those reaching 25 years of practice, and the new specialists completing their residency in 2026.
The gathering was attended by the Association’s president, Elizabeth Hernández, its secretary‑general, Nicolás Santana, and the island representatives Luis Bravo and Miriam Rodríguez, who accompanied the awardees and their families throughout the evening of professional recognition.
During her remarks, Hernández highlighted the professional and human significance of the ceremony, noting that medical practice on the island is defined by closeness, adaptability, and a strong commitment to the community. She also emphasized the essential role of medicine in insular territories such as Fuerteventura, where continuity of care, accessibility, and the doctor‑patient bond acquire special importance.
“Today we are not only celebrating careers; we are celebrating a way of being doctors,” the president said, addressing the three honored generations: those who embody the living memory of the profession, those who bring experience and judgment after 25 years of practice, and those embarking on a new chapter as specialists.
