Court endorses public consultation on vacation‑rental law
The Canary Islands Ministry of Tourism and Employment, led by Jéssica de León, has welcomed the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands dated 6 May 2026. The judgment puts an end to the legal challenge against the preliminary public consultation process for the Sustainable Management Law on the Tourist Use of Housing, which was approved by the Canary Islands Parliament on 12 December 2015.
The court concluded that, throughout the procedure, all requested information was provided, including more than 5,000 citizen contributions gathered during the participatory process.
The judicial decision also emphasizes that no inconsistencies or inaccuracies were found in the public consultation, which was carried out normally, with full guarantees and without any irregularities.
It is worth recalling that, during the process, the consultation was questioned and a second public consultation was demanded. The court deemed this unnecessary, confirming that the original consultation had been correctly conducted.
“This ruling supports a working model based on transparency, citizen participation, and technical rigor,” said Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, Director General of Planning, Training and Tourism Promotion.
