Hotel overnight stays fall in the Canary Islands
Down 4.4% in April, to 5.49 million bookings
- Overnight stays in hotel establishments fell 4.4% in April compared with the same month last year, totaling 5,495,508 operations (INE data).
- Despite the drop, this remains the fifth‑best April figure in the region’s historical series.
- Hotels hosted 5.48% fewer tourists than in April 2025, with 889,770 travelers:
- 186,164 (20.92%) were Spanish residents.
- 703,606 (79.08%) were foreign visitors.
- Spanish‑resident arrivals fell 4.6%, while foreign arrivals fell 5.7% year‑on‑year.
- Of the total overnight stays in the Canary Islands:
- 652,913 (11.88%) were by Spanish residents.
- 4,842,595 (88.12%) were by foreign residents.
- The average daily room rate rose to €150.64, a 3.8% increase over the previous year; overall hotel prices were 1.32% higher than in April 2025.
- April occupancy reached 68.67%, and the hotel sector employed 60,928 people, a 2.9% rise year‑on‑year.
- By autonomous community, the Canary Islands had the highest occupancy per available bed at 68.67%, ahead of the Balearic Islands (65.8%) and Madrid (63.31%). The lowest rates were in Asturias (38.04%), Castilla‑La Mancha (39.97%) and Cantabria (40.38%).
- In the context of Spain’s total overnight stays, the Canary Islands accounted for the largest share in April at 18.77%, followed by Andalusia (17.86%) and Catalonia (17.19%).
