Diesel Hits €1.60 per Liter at Southern Island Service Stations
The cheapest price on the island can be found this Saturday in Antigua casco or Caleta de Fuste at €1.36 per liter.
Hostilities continue in the Persian Gulf as Israel and its ally the United States wage an undeclared war against Iran. The fallout from this conflict is being felt worldwide, and inflation data are already beginning to squeeze the wallets of all Majorcans. Analysts warn that the problem is only just starting; even if the war ends tomorrow, stagflation—simultaneous inflation and economic slowdown—remains a short‑ to medium‑term reality.
Fuel Drives Prices
Gasoline and diesel pumps across Fuerteventura woke up yesterday with a further 1 % price hike. Diesel now reaches €1.60 per liter at the most expensive stations in Costa Calma, while the cheapest outlets in the municipality of Antigua sell it for €1.35 per liter.
Since the conflict erupted on 28 February, diesel prices have surged by more than 19 % in just one month, whereas gasoline has risen 12 % over the same period.
Impact on Consumers
- Filling a diesel tank now costs an average of €84.4, up from €70.8 a month ago.
- The government’s recent VAT relief does not apply to the Canary Islands, so the price pressure continues to mount.
“We are waiting for state measures, but the lack of VAT relief for the Canaries means prices keep climbing, creating serious problems for everyday users and especially for transport professionals,” the article notes.
The ongoing rise in fuel costs is expected to exacerbate economic strain across the island until effective policy interventions are introduced.
