Emergency landing in Fuerteventura due to cabin smoke

Flight from Paris to the Island Disrupts Airport Operations

A flight originating in Paris bound for Fuerteventura declared an emergency on Friday after the crew detected possible smoke in the cabin, according to a post by Air Traffic Controllers on their official X account.

The crew reported the incident to the ENAIRE Control Center in the Canary Islands, triggering the immediate activation of the air‑safety protocol to give the affected aircraft absolute priority during its approach and landing.

To facilitate the maneuver, controllers implemented several operational measures:

  • A few scheduled take‑offs were temporarily delayed.
  • The emergency flight’s approach was shortened.
  • All other traffic was removed from the landing sequence.
  • Another aircraft was instructed to perform a “frustrated” maneuver to clear the runway, ensuring the emergency plane could land without obstacles while the remaining traffic was held in holding areas.

The aircraft touched down safely at Fuerteventura Airport and was inspected by airport emergency services, which verified the situation after arrival. Once the incident was fully controlled and any further risk was ruled out, the control center reorganized and normalized inbound traffic.

“The coordination between the crew, control personnel, and emergency teams was exemplary,” the Air Traffic Controllers highlighted. “Such actions allow critical situations to be resolved quickly and safely, minimizing impact on other flight operations.”
