Fuerteventura Council Launches First Five Public EV Charging Points
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has put into operation the first five public charging points for electric vehicles, as part of a project to install a total of 15 chargers of 22 kW distributed across various municipalities on the island. The initiative, financed with European Next Generation EU funds, was awarded to Repsol Comercializadora de Productos Petrolíferos S.A. for an amount of €213,570.17.
“It represents a significant step forward for sustainable mobility on the island, making it easier for both residents and visitors to choose electric transport in a practical and safe way,” said island president Lola García.
“The project modernizes charging infrastructure and reinforces Fuerteventura's commitment to the energy transition, helping to reduce the carbon footprint and promoting a cleaner, more efficient mobility model,” added Industry Councilor Lolina Negrín.
Locations of the New Points
The five operational stations are located at:
- Puerto del Rosario – C/ Doctor Fleming, 6.
- Pájara – C/ Nuestra Señora de la Regla, 5.
- La Oliva:
- C/ Juan Cabrera Méndez, 1.
- C/ La Cancela, 1 (Lajares).
- C/ La Arena, 1 (Corralejo).
Each station can charge two vehicles simultaneously, speeding up service and meeting the growing demand for electric‑vehicle infrastructure.
Next Phases
The Cabildo announced that the remaining ten chargers are in an advanced stage of administrative processing and electrical connection. In the coming months, new points will be added in Pájara, Betancuria, and Puerto del Rosario, while work in Tuineje and Antigua faces slight delays due to municipal licensing.
With this rollout, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura moves forward in its commitment to decarbonizing mobility, investing in modern infrastructure that enables the island to meet emerging energy and environmental challenges.
