Fuerteventura Council Opens Hunting Dog Training Fields on May 17

Maximum of four dogs per hunter, all must be properly identified

The Fuerteventura Island Council announced that, starting this Sunday, May 17, the hunting‑dog training and conditioning fields at Coto de los Camachos, Parque Holandés, Barranco Río Cabras and Guerepe will be open to the public.

The authorized training period runs from May 17 until the last working day before the opening of the 2026 hunting season.

Permitted days and hours

  • Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and national or regional holidays
  • From sunrise to sunset, as defined by the National Geographic Information Center

In addition, the fields at Coto de los Camachos and Guerepe will reopen from the first allowed day after the 2026 hunting season ends until December 27 2026 (inclusive).

  • A hunter may bring up to four dogs, each of which must be equipped with a microchip and have up‑to‑date vaccination records.
  • If a hunting dog is lost or goes missing, the incident must be reported to the competent authority within 48 hours.

The Council reminds all users to maintain good conduct, acting responsibly and with respect for the natural environment while carrying out the activity.

The note also indicates that additional hunting‑dog training fields are expected to open before the 2026 hunting season.
