Fuerteventura Gears Up for the 2025 Our Lady of La Peña Festival
From September 18 to 21, Betancuria will host events dedicated to the island’s patron saint
Fuerteventura is already gearing up for one of its most anticipated celebrations: the Festivals in Honor of Our Lady of La Peña, the island’s patron, which will take place from September 18 to 21 in Betancuria. The official program of events was presented on Monday by the Island Council and the Betancuria Town Hall, featuring religious, cultural, gastronomic, and sporting activities.
The Council President, Lola García, emphasized that
“the festivals of our patron represent the essence of the people of Fuerteventura: tradition, culture, and community.”
She also highlighted the importance of cross‑departmental collaboration within the island’s institutions and the cooperation of municipal bodies.
Culture Minister Rayco León added that the schedule
“offers an intense agenda with activities for all ages, from children’s workshops to folk gatherings, pilgrimages, music, and culinary proposals.”
Betancuria Mayor Enrique Cerdeña assured that
“the municipality is ready to welcome everyone who comes to the event, which we hope will be celebrated with the tranquility and quality that characterize La Peña.”
Representing the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Aday García explained that the sanctuary’s administration has organized the religious ceremonies that will highlight the island’s devotion to its patron. This year’s town crier, Inmaculada de Armas, also noted that her address will provide
“a perspective on the history that unites the whole island, from north to south and east to west.”
