Fuerteventura Hosts Second El Talentón to Spur Youth Entrepreneurship

Fuerteventura welcomed the second edition of El Talentón on Friday, a program aimed at fostering youth entrepreneurship and helping island youngsters turn their ideas into professional projects with real development potential.

The initiative is financed by the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) and enjoys the collaboration of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. The opening ceremony took place at the Centro Insular de Juventud in Puerto del Rosario, with the participation of:

  • Jéssica de León, Councilor for Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands
  • María Teresa Ortega, General Director of the SCE
  • Lola García, President of the Cabildo
  • Adargoma Hernández, Island Councilor for Education and Youth

In this edition, twenty young entrepreneurs are organized into five teams, cementing the project as a benchmark for youth entrepreneurship in the Canary Islands.

“Programs like El Talentón combine training, guidance and real opportunities, fostering labor insertion and youth entrepreneurship across the islands,” said Councilor Jéssica de León. “It is essential to provide practical tools so young people can develop viable projects without having to leave their island.”

The program is backed by €50,000 from the SCE and aims to strengthen competencies in leadership, artificial intelligence, creativity, and teamwork, while also linking participants with the archipelago’s business and investment ecosystem.

“This initiative reinforces the confidence of young entrepreneurs who need support and mentorship to take their first steps,” noted María Teresa Ortega, General Director of the SCE.

“The potential of our island’s youth is immense. We must create spaces and resources that nurture talent and innovation here in Fuerteventura,” emphasized Lola García, President of the Cabildo.

“Seeing El Talentón return for a second consecutive year confirms its necessity for an active and participative youth,” added Adargoma Hernández, Councilor for Education and Youth.

The event follows the “Camino Talentón” methodology, which blends training, professional mentorship, and realistic entrepreneurship simulations.

The winning team from each island will receive a €1,500 prize to develop its Minimum Viable Product and will advance to the regional final scheduled for 12 September in Santa Cruz de La Palma. There, the finalists will compete for a training and innovation trip to China.
