Fuerteventura launches the 1st Canary Islands School Nursing Congress

The Education Department of the Cabildo and the Health Area Sign a Protocol to Organise This Professional Meeting on 10‑11 April

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Health Services Management of the Fuerteventura Health Area have signed a general collaboration protocol for the planning, organisation and development of the I Congress of Canary Islands School Nursing. The event will bring together health and education professionals to advance health promotion in schools across the islands.

The agreement was signed by the island’s Minister of Education and Youth, Adargoma Hernández, and the Director of the Fuerteventura Health Area, Tomás Marcial Pérez, establishing an inter‑administrative framework to drive this training and professional coordination initiative.

“This congress represents an important step to strengthen collaboration between education and health, and to keep advancing the promotion of healthy habits and the well‑being of students in our schools,” said Adargoma Hernández, Education Minister of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

The congress, conceived by nurses and other health personnel who work directly with schools, will be held on 10 and 11 April 2026 in the municipality of Pájara. It will serve as a meeting point for school nurses, teachers, health professionals, students and representatives of the educational community.

The programme will combine:

  • Lectures and keynote presentations
  • Round‑table discussions
  • Scientific communications
  • Activities linked to the Southern School Health Fair

The initiative aims to:

  • Reinforce cooperation between the education and health systems
  • Promote research in school health
  • Highlight the pivotal role of school nursing in prevention, health education and student care within the school environment

The signed protocol sets the institutional collaboration bases for defining the scientific programme, organisational coordination, professional participation and congress promotion, as well as for fostering future cooperation lines in school health throughout the Canary Islands.
