Fuerteventura reports 85% average occupancy for this summer at ITB Berlin
The German market, together with the British market, is one of the fundamental pillars of the Canary Islands destination and of Fuerteventura in particular.
International operators confirmed on the first day of the 2026 ITB Berlin fair that Fuerteventura will achieve an average occupancy of 85 % this summer, according to a press release from the Island Corporation.
“The strategy we have launched from the Tourism Board to grow in quality, targeting tourists who value sustainability, also involves updating our destination’s image in traditional markets and offering products with a genuine Majorero seal,” said Tourism Counselor Marlene Figueroa.
“We need a new type of tourist who demands original goods and services produced by island residents, boosting local economies that have so far been less involved in the sector.”
The work agenda, led by the Tourism Board and supported on‑site by the municipalities of La Oliva and Pájara, as well as representatives from the island’s business community, included meetings with international tour operators such as Jet2.com, Jet2holidays, Granicus, Thalasso Nº1, Itaka, Minube, eDreams, Travel Marketing, and LegendsTour.
During these meetings, participants examined various economic and business contexts affecting source markets, which nonetheless reaffirmed their interest in Fuerteventura with an expected 85 % average occupancy for the upcoming summer.
One of the constraints in source markets is the massive aircraft renewal process currently affecting the aviation sector. The replacement rate has slowed, reducing the availability of seats from Germany, as reported by the Spanish Embassy in Germany.
Despite this, Fuerteventura enjoys a advantageous position in its relationship with the German market compared to the rest of the archipelago. Airlines have projected a 6 % reduction in regular seat offerings to the island for this summer (an 8.6 % decline for the Canary Islands overall).
This reduction is offset by growth in seat offerings from other markets:
- United Kingdom: +3.3 % (18,337 additional seats compared with summer 2025)
- France: +2.5 % (1,041 additional seats)
- Luxembourg: +35.1 % (3,195 additional seats)
The German market remains a cornerstone for Fuerteventura; in 2025, the island welcomed 784,752 German passengers.
Regular flights to Fuerteventura currently operate from Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, and Cologne.
