Jobs, Training, and Public Infrastructure Upgrades

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has today closed two employment programmes: “The Cabildo Improves Your Commutes”, aimed at upgrading regular passenger transport infrastructure across the island, and “The Cabildo Informs You”, which sought to enhance service at citizen‑attention offices by hiring people with disabilities. Over the past year, these schemes have provided jobs for about twenty individuals.

“Our institution is committed to employment plans that offer real opportunities to the unemployed through innovative projects that also serve the public,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

Both programmes were co‑financed by the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands, using resources from the Canary Development Fund (FDCAN). Together with the “The Cabildo Acts” programme, which ended in December, the Cabildo’s total investment in employment plans has exceeded €1.7 million, benefiting nearly 60 people.

“These plans have been a great success, and the island corporation will continue to promote them in sensitive areas such as social services, the environment, and education, to keep meeting the population’s needs,” García added.

Improving Your Commutes

According to Nuria Cabrera, Councillor for Employment Promotion, 13 unemployed individuals participated in the “Improving Your Commutes” plan, adapting public‑transport infrastructure to create safer and more accessible spaces. The investment reached €369,733.23.

Key interventions, coordinated with the Transport Department, include:

  • Upgrades at the Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable stations.
  • Preferred‑stop shelters in Caleta de Fuste, Gran Tarajal, Corralejo, and El Cotillo.
  • Installation of canopies in roughly 50 localities across the island.

Informing You

The “The Cabildo Informs You” programme, with an investment of €292,428, focused on social inclusion for people with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities. It provided employment for nine individuals who improved citizen‑attention services at the Cabildo’s offices located in:

  • Puerto del Rosario
  • Gran Tarajal
  • Morro Jable
  • Corralejo
  • The Agricultural Extension Office in Gran Tarajal

“This demonstrates the Cabildo’s commitment to employment policies that target strategic areas and respond to the demands of our citizens, delivering essential public‑service tasks for the island,” concluded Councillor Nuria Cabrera.
