La Oliva Council to Open Local Police Office in El Cotillo

More security for the town of El Cotillo. This is the premise under which the La Oliva City Council and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura have been working to enable the opening of the first Local Police office in the coastal village. The initiative is driven by the City Safety Department, led by Mayor Isaí Blanco, who secured a space from the Cabildo’s Transport Department located at the Preferred Bus Stop “D. Pedro Hernández Morales,” thereby answering a long‑standing demand from local residents.

Strengthening Public Safety

  • The City Safety Department’s improvements are directly linked to service quality.
  • The Local Police force has grown from 28 officers at the start of the legislative term to 48 active officers today.
  • The council is already planning additional positions, allowing security resources to be decentralised from Corralejo to other towns such as El Cotillo.

Recent Developments in El Cotillo

The coastal town has seen several projects in recent years that address various community needs:

  • Opening of a medical clinic.
  • Completion of the first phase of the promenade renovation.
  • Inauguration of the Torre del Tostón.
  • Upgrades to sidewalks and overall accessibility.
  • Launch of the ARRU urban regeneration and renewal programme, benefiting multiple local homes.

Voices from the Authorities

“Increasing the force from 28 agents at the beginning of the term to 48 active officers now not only improves the quality of public safety but also allows us to decentralise security from Corralejo and extend it to other municipalities, such as El Cotillo,”
Isaí Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva

“The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is providing a space to the La Oliva Council for a Local Police office at the Preferred Station in El Cotillo. This request came from the mayor to enhance security for the town and for transport services, as vandalism had repeatedly damaged the stop and harmed its image,”
Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura

“Through the Heritage Department of the City Council, in collaboration with the Cabildo, we have secured this crucial space to fulfil another historic demand of El Cotillo—establishing a Local Police post so that a rapidly growing town can enjoy the security it deserves,”
Juan José Rodríguez, Municipal Heritage and Treasury Councilor

Commitment to the Community

The project reflects the local government’s commitment not only to improve municipal public safety but also to respond to the longstanding requests of La Oliva’s residents.
