Lajares to Embark on a New Journey
Cabildo definitively approves project to improve Lajares crossing
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has definitively and unanimously approved the project to upgrade the Lajares crossing, a scheme that exceeds €4 million.
“Highly demanded by the population, as it will improve a stretch that has experienced a considerable increase in traffic volume,” said the president of the island corporation, Lola García.
The plenary session of the island corporation approved the project today, aiming to enhance accessibility and safety for pedestrians along this section. With this approval, the Cabildo finalises the preliminary procedures required for the upcoming tender for the works.
Roads councillor Blas Acosta highlighted the importance of the initiative:
“These works are of great interest and will improve a crossing that faces severe traffic difficulties, also providing a solution for drainage. We hope to put the tender out as soon as possible.”
The project responds to the needs of a segment that has seen a sharp rise in traffic passing through the town of Lajares, coupled with the opening of numerous shops that generate significant pedestrian flow. The implementation will be coordinated with the Municipality of La Oliva, including the improvement of drainage infrastructure.
