Man arrested for about thirty parked-car thefts in Puerto del Rosario
The National Police have arrested a 53‑year‑old man suspected of committing 30 thefts with force inside vehicles and one robbery with violence and intimidation at various locations in Puerto del Rosario.
According to the Superior Police Headquarters of the Canary Islands, officers opened the investigation after a surge of break‑ins targeting parked cars was recorded across several neighborhoods during March and April 2026.
The inquiries led to the identification of a male suspect known locally as “El Argentino.” He operated mainly at night and was even able to carry out several thefts on the same evening.
“The modus operandi consisted of smashing vehicle windows to gain entry and steal any valuable items,” the police explained.
Police highlighted a particular incident on May 6, when the suspect, after forcibly breaking into a car, hid nearby and waited for the owner to return. He then seized the cash the owner was carrying.
To apprehend the perpetrator, officers deployed a series of night‑time surveillance devices and analyzed footage from security cameras positioned around the crime scenes. This visual evidence proved decisive in pinpointing the suspect.
Investigators also discovered a storage location where the man kept a large number of stolen items. The recovery of these belongings allowed authorities to return most of the reported losses to their rightful owners.
As a result, the suspect has been formally charged with 30 burglaries inside vehicles, placed in police custody, and handed over to the competent judicial authority, which ordered his provisional imprisonment.
