The 8 Canary Islands airports will remain under exclusive state control
The Government makes the first transfer of competence for airports “that are not of general interest.”
The Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory will forward to the Government of the Canary Islands its proposal to transfer exclusive competence over ports, airports, heliports and other transport infrastructures that are not classified as of general interest by the State.
According to information released this Monday by the department headed by Ángel Víctor Torres, the Ministry of Transport has endorsed this proposal after the Government of the Canary Islands repeatedly requested joint airport management.
This is the first step towards the management of airports that are not of general interest, although negotiations continue between the central and Canary governments regarding transport infrastructures that are classified as of general interest.
Following the Ministry's communication of the proposal for aerodromes that are not of general interest, the Government of the Canary Islands must either express its agreement or request the necessary reports to proceed with the procedure that will culminate in a Mixed Transfer Commission and, subsequently, with the approval of the transfer by the Council of Ministers
