Nearly 60% Drop in Irregular Sea Arrivals to the Canary Islands in 2025
The islands record the arrival of 11,680 migrants up to September, a 58.3% decrease
Canary Islands have recorded the arrival of 11,680 migrants up to September 30, a 58.3% drop compared with the same period last year, according to the irregular‑immigration report published Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior and reported by Europa Press. The report notes that these migrants arrived aboard 211 vessels, a 54.3% reduction from 2024’s 462 ships.
- Balearic Islands: 5,827 irregular migrants arrived from 1 January to 30 September 2025, 84% more than in the same period of 2024.
- Spain overall: 27,476 migrants have entered Spain irregularly by sea and land so far in 2025, 35.1% fewer than the 42,327 recorded in the same period of 2024.
- By sea: 24,589 migrants have arrived this year, a 38.8% decline from 40,172 arrivals in the comparable 2024 period. They came in 965 vessels, 241 fewer than the previous year.
Thus, 11,680 migrants have reached the Peninsula (5,853) and the Balearic Islands (5,827), representing a 25.9% increase over the 9,278 arrivals recorded in the same period of 2024. These arrivals were made in 743 vessels, 13 more than last year.
Ceuta and Melilla
Land entries: A total of 2,887 people entered the autonomous cities irregularly by land, 34% more than the same period last year.
- Ceuta: 2,644 arrivals, 552 more than in 2024.
- Melilla: 243 arrivals, 180 more than in 2024.
Sea entries:
- Ceuta: 6 irregular migrants arrived by sea, down from 23 the previous year.
- Melilla: 25 arrived by sea, up from 21 in the same period of 2024 (19% increase).
