PP demands 75% discount on Fuerteventura airport parking for Canary Island residents
The Popular Party (PP) in the Cabildo of Fuerteventura will defend, at the upcoming island council plenary, a motion requesting that the Spanish Government and AENA implement a 75 % discount on airport parking for Canary Island residents.
The initiative also proposes the creation of free‑parking zones dedicated to airport workers and staff of auxiliary companies that operate within the airport facilities.
“The current cost of parking represents an additional burden for many island residents who rely on private vehicles to reach the airport,” said Claudio Gutiérrez, spokesperson for the Popular Group in the Cabildo.
Gutiérrez explained that limited public transport options, work schedules, and the dispersed geography of numerous population centers leave many people with no alternative but to drive to the airport.
The PP’s proposal takes the resident discount already applied to air and sea transport between the Canary Islands and the rest of Spain as a reference point.
The motion also highlights the situation of airport‑linked workers—including security, cleaning, maintenance, handling, catering, and retail staff—who currently must bear parking costs during their work shifts.
According to the Popular Party, the current tariff policy fails to consider the realities of insularity and “double insularity” in the Canary Islands, as well as the economic impact these expenses have on families and workers.
The motion further requests that AENA allocate free parking spaces in future expansions or new annexed zones of the airport for the exclusive use of airport personnel and auxiliary companies.
The PP argues that these measures would help alleviate costs for both residents and regular airport workers on Fuerteventura.
