Roads Completes Paving of Old Access Road to Costa Calma
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Roads Service, has finished paving, clearing, and removing dry palm fronds from the margins of the FV‑603 as it passes through the town of Costa Calma. In the coming days, horizontal traffic signs will be installed. Workers carried out the operation with minimal impact on traffic, planning intermittent closures and maintaining public transport routes.
Island President Lola García highlighted the Cabildo’s efforts to keep the island’s road network in good condition, improving safety and comfort for users.
Blas Acosta, Roads Councilor, explained: “Costa Calma is an important population hub and an enclave that generates economy and employment, so the state of its road infrastructure is key to its development.”
The annual planning of maintenance actions for Fuerteventura’s road network (continuous and cyclical actions) aims to achieve several objectives, such as enhancing driving safety and presenting a European‑standard tourist destination image.
Paving work on the FV‑603 was carried out between kilometer points 0‑3 and 6.8‑7.1, i.e., at both ends of the road through Costa Calma. Intermittent traffic closures and alternative routes for private vehicles were scheduled between 07:00 and 17:00, while regular public transport maintained its usual routes and stops.
The resurfacing process included a final wearing layer after applying preparatory surface‑regularization layers due to the pavement’s condition. Horizontal signage (road markings) will be renewed, and new “cat’s eye” reflective markers will be installed.
In addition to paving the FV‑603, the Roads Service crews performed margin and ditch cleaning, removing accumulated dry palm leaves from the sides.
