Storm's first phase moves up to Wednesday night

The next impacts are expected on Thursday, Friday and, above all, on Saturday.

The deep Atlantic depression that has been announced for several days will affect the island of Fuerteventura starting on Wednesday.

According to meteokomando experts Atis Tirma, “the detachment of a disturbance from northern latitudes will draw the DANA on Wednesday the 18th, positioning itself west‑southwest of the Portuguese coast with 1000 mb at its low‑pressure centre. With a retrograde east‑west movement it will be located between the Azores and Madeira, deepening rapidly to 980‑985 mb, sending instability to the Canary Islands in the form of several cold fronts and strong west‑southwest winds until Saturday the 2nd.”

In this sense, real instability is occurring on the island, with winds rising on Wednesday that will continue on Thursday, Friday and especially Saturday. All signs point to the storm moving away from the islands on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to wind, widespread precipitation is expected across the island, although its intensity cannot be determined. It will be linked to the passage of the storm’s arms.

Besides the strong winds and a high chance of drizzle, attention must be paid to the sea: waves up to 6 meters high are forecast in open areas on the north and west of the island, with the most intense conditions expected on Saturday the 21st.
