The genetic reference is a male from La Pared

A total of twenty male specimens and forty bidders took part in the semen auction at the 38th Agricultural, Livestock and Fishing Fair of Fuerteventura (FEAGA). The event, one of the fair’s most attended activities, featured intense competition among breeders from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Auction highlights

  • Highest bid: 2,625 € for a specimen from the herd of Andrés Rodríguez (Lajares). The animal was awarded to Nicolás Castro of La Pared, surpassing the previous edition’s record and ranking among the highest bids in recent years.
  • Second‑highest bid: 2,200 € for a specimen from Javier Cerdeña (Tesjuate), purchased by Esteban Rodríguez of Lajares.
  • Third‑highest bid: 2,150 € for the winner of the second‑place prize for young males in the FEAGA cattle competition, a Blas Gregorio (Villaverde) stallion, acquired by Pedro Peña of Valle de Santa Inés.

Role of the Goat Breeders Association

The Association of Goat Breeders of Fuerteventura supports this popular event, gathering each year breeders, goat‑raising enthusiasts, the general public, and others interested in improving the breed’s genetics. The auction ring has been renovated to increase capacity, reflecting the activity’s growing popularity.

“The auction not only showcases the best genetic material but also strengthens collaboration among breeders across the islands,” said a representative of the association.
