The most Latin carnival is here: program launches in Corralejo

The 2026 Corralejo Carnival of Carnivals program, themed “Latin America,” launches this Saturday, 28 February, although the main events will take place from 5 to 15 March, beginning with the opening speeches of Yeray Galván and Judith Morera. In the meantime, two weeks of culture and fun—full of creativity, glitter, dance and celebration—will light up the heart of this tourist town.

The municipality of La Oliva is sounding the starter pistol. Through its Department of Festivities, the town council has unveiled one of the most anticipated cultural and festive events for residents and visitors: the 2026 Corralejo Carnival of Carnivals program.

The main festivities are scheduled for 5 – 15 March, but activities already begin this Saturday, 28 February. The streets of the coastal town will be filled with light, colour and sparkle, accompanied by music, dance and plenty of partying, celebrating the traditions and identity not only of Fuerteventura but of the entire Canary archipelago, according to the department headed by Omaira Saavedra. Chosen by popular vote, the theme “Latin America” promises an unparalleled gathering for both adults and children over the next two weeks.

From February 5: Opening Speeches, Queens, Murga Bands and the Carnival Parade

This year the opening speakers will be Yeray Galván and Judith Morera, two locals who live and breathe carnival, having performed both on the streets and on stage. Both have taken part in murga groups, comparsas and even served on juries.

The traditional highlights will return:

  • Adult Queen and Children’s Pageant
  • Grand Lady Gala
  • Murga Marathon
  • Carnival Parade (Coso Carnavalero)

These events continue to capture the hearts of the town’s residents year after year. After the success of previous editions, the Carnival Race returns for its ninth consecutive year, alongside the second edition of the High‑Heels Race.

Municipal carnival groups will decide the marching order of the 17 queen and lady candidates, culminating in a performance by local artist Marta Umpiérrez, who will belt out the anthem of La Oliva’s carnival, “Es Marzo.”

To tide over the wait for the Corralejo celebration, the Department of Festivities is organizing “Carnival of the Tie” in La Oliva, featuring a second Carnival Parade in the Plaza de la Iglesia at 18:00, followed by an evening party with Nuevo Klan, Nklave, K‑Libre and Kandela at the Cultural Association Raíz del Pueblo from 21:00.

Official Dates for the 2026 La Oliva Carnival

“We invite you to enjoy March 5 – 15, a series of days that prove our carnival is tradition.”
— Isaí Blanco

Mayor Isaí Blanco emphasized the council’s commitment to keeping the town’s tradition alive: “Another year brings very special dates for our municipality and, especially, for the town of Corralejo. Our goal remains the same—to organize a carnival that preserves our tradition and identity, with the help of the groups that give life to these celebrations.”

Festivities councilor Omaira Saavedra highlighted the essential role of the carnival groups: “I want to thank the carnival groups deeply for their effort and dedication in keeping our carnival alive, because I will never tire of saying it—without the groups there would be no carnival.”

Now is the time to prepare your costumes—the carnival in La Oliva is officially underway!

All events will be announced on the municipality’s social media channels @aytolaoliva, @festejoslaoliva and @carnavaldelaoliva.
