Yellow warning for wind and coastal phenomena this Sunday

Waves could exceed five meters at some points of the island

  • The State Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow warning for two conditions on the island of Fuerteventura for Sunday, 18 January.
  • Wind: gusts up to 70 km/h are expected, with a northwesterly wind turning north in the late afternoon. The wind will affect the whole island, especially the north coast, the interior, and the Jandía peninsula.
  • Sea state: waves between 4 m and 5 m high are forecast, with combined northwesterly seas.
  • The new moon will produce a high tide coefficient, which could cause sea intrusion in some coastal zones. High tide is expected on Sunday at 13:30 and again at 01:45 on Monday.
  • On Monday the sea will calm, but the tide coefficient will remain high. Caution is advised along the coast on both days, particularly in the north and west of Fuerteventura.
