3,000 students discover Majorca's primary sector at FEAGA 2026
Approximately 3,000 pupils from about fifteen schools in Fuerteventura took part on Friday in an educational day within the Fuerteventura Agricultural, Livestock and Fisheries Fair (FEAGA) 2026, held at the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm.
Lola García, president of the Fuerteventura Island Council, and Enrique Pérez, councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, welcomed the students in this initiative, which aims to bring the primary sector closer to new generations and promote generational renewal from an early age.
During the visit, the schoolchildren took a guided tour of the nurseries and the oil mill of the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm, where they could see first‑hand the various processes linked to the island’s agricultural activity.
They also attended traditional demonstrations such as threshing with donkeys and native cattle, sheep shearing, and a narrated exhibition of the Canary bovine breed. The day also featured a tasting workshop of local products, introducing the pupils to Fuerteventura’s gastronomic richness.
Kindergarten and primary students also participated in activities related to traditional sports and games within the “Don’t Forget Our Heritage” programme, promoted by the Council’s Sports Department and running throughout the weekend of the fair.
Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Rural Environment Management of the Canary Islands, the students were able to take part in workshops focused on adding value to local products.
With this initiative, FEAGA strengthens its role as a space for outreach and learning, bringing the primary sector to the educational community and highlighting its importance for the island’s sustainable development.
