FEAGA 2026 Kicks Off with Strong Industry Participation and Innovative Edge
During the inauguration, tributes were paid to the coastal livestock commissioners of Antigua and Betancuria, as well as to the Majorero Cheese DOP.
The Agricultural, Livestock and Fisheries Fair of Fuerteventura (FEAGA) 2026 opened on Thursday, April 16, with high sector participation, expanded activities, and a clear focus on innovation to improve streaming and accessibility.
The launch was led by the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, alongside the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, the island’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Enrique Pérez, the regional minister Narvay Quintero, and the First Deputy Mayor of Antigua, Juan Cabrera.
“FEAGA is much more than an event. It reflects the work of many people, our local product, our traditions and, above all, the effort of those who sustain the primary sector in Fuerteventura,” ‑ Lola García.
She added that this year FEAGA arrives in a special context: “With the rains we are seeing Fuerteventura turn green again, so this edition is especially dedicated to agriculture—a sector that innovates, diversifies and adapts. The work of the livestock and fisheries sectors will be recognized through numerous activities over the three‑day fair.”
García also highlighted the Cabildo’s support for a particularly vulnerable sector:
“In the past year the island corporation has allocated more than €9 million in aid to sustain its competitiveness, and we will continue to accompany and respond, aware of the current moment marked by international conflicts that directly affect our economy and sector activity.”
President Fernando Clavijo used the opening to stress agriculture’s central role in Fuerteventura’s development, noting that FEAGA serves as a showcase for the effort and growth capacity of the island’s countryside. He emphasized water management and the need to strengthen irrigation infrastructure to secure the future of the primary sector, praising the coordinated work between the Cabildo and the Territorial Policy Ministry led by Manolo Miranda to tackle the water emergency. Clavijo reiterated that FEAGA recognises agriculture, livestock and fisheries as inseparable pillars of Fuerteventura’s identity and landscape, while promoting innovation without losing sight of the sector’s roots.
Minister Enrique Pérez thanked “all the professionals, collectives, entities and teams of the primary sector that make possible what is undoubtedly the largest gathering of the Canary Islands’ primary sector.” He described the edition as a tool for sharing, analysing, improving and projecting the sector.
Pérez detailed the fair’s innovative character, adding a stronger technological component:
- Live streaming of the main events via QR code, social media and the website https://feaga.net.
- For people with reduced mobility, a shuttle train from the parking area to the fairgrounds and wheelchair services for persons with reduced mobility (PMR).
Regional minister Narvay Quintero noted that the Canary Islands Government has expanded its presence at FEAGA with a larger exhibition space and a broader program, including outreach activities for adults and children such as school workshops organized by GMR Canarias and the “Frutiguagua” initiative of the Canary Institute of Agro‑Food Quality (ICCA). He also highlighted progress in defending the POSEI—the main support instrument for Canary agriculture—citing a recent European Parliament Budget Committee report that proposes specific funding for ultra‑peripheral regions and a sufficiently independent POSEI. Quintero called this “the result of more than two years of intense technical and institutional work by the Canary Government, in coordination with the sector and backed by the Parliament of the Canary Islands, other RUPs and their states, to underpin these compensations.”
First Deputy Mayor Juan Cabrera (Antigua) said the municipality welcomes the most important event of the primary sector each year, offering full collaboration, coordinating the security plan, and ensuring smooth vehicular access, parking and entry/exit through the Local Police.
FEAGA 2026 features extensive participation from professionals, sector companies, collectives and complementary services across the Canary Islands, with:
- 200+ stands in total
- 60+ in the commercial hall
- 20 in the institutional hall
- ≈90 in the producers’ and artisans’ market area
- ≈50 stalls for associations and kiosks
Recognitions
During the inauguration, a well‑deserved tribute was paid to Tomás Acosta Cabrera and Vicente Hernández Santana for their fifty years of service as commissioners of the Antigua‑Betancuria joint municipality, recognizing their work in preserving coastal livestock, now declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage (BIC).
A further honor was given to the Majorero Cheese Regulatory Council on its thirtieth anniversary, with its president Esteban Alberto Pérez on stage. The ceremony highlighted the council’s role in guaranteeing the excellence of Majorero cheese production in Fuerteventura and promoting a product that is a hallmark of the island’s identity.
The authorities then posed for the traditional photo with members of ADISFUER for their collaboration, and began a tour of the FEAGA 2026 Institutional Hall.
