Scammed out of €30,000 in Corralejo by a fake job promise

Seven individuals investigated and ten more identified for fraud and money‑laundering after a complaint in Corralejo (Fuerteventura).

The Civil Guard has opened an investigation into seven suspects and identified ten additional persons for fraud and money‑laundering offenses, dismantling a digital‑scam network that offered fake job opportunities.

The operation, carried out by the island’s cyber‑agents of the “Equipo @” within the broader “Falwork” investigation, revealed that the victim transferred more than €30,000 under false pretences to accounts owned by the alleged perpetrators.

“I was approached on Telegram by people claiming to represent a digital‑promotion company and was asked to perform simple social‑media tasks,” the complainant explained in her statement.

The alleged scheme began with simple tasks—liking posts, commenting, and taking screenshots on various social platforms—creating a sense of legitimacy that convinced the victim they were working for a real, formally established organization.

Expansion of the scam

After gaining the victim’s trust, the scammers expanded their demands, instructing the victim to make bank transfers from their own account to third parties, promising that the invested money would be returned with a commission.

The network operated from multiple Spanish locations

The Civil Guard disclosed that the fraudulent front was managed from several cities across Spain, including Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Barcelona, Ceuta, Ourense, Gijón, and Madrid. The group used the identity of a fictitious company to attract victims and move illicit funds.

  • The “Equipo @” identified the owners of the bank accounts that received the deceptive transfers.
  • The investigation clarified the modus operandi of the group and advanced the identification of all its members.

Judicial proceedings

All police findings have been forwarded to the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) for further legal action.
